‘Morgue’, ‘Prison’, or ‘Market’ peace for the Middle East?

Simon Chege Ndiritu, October 26 2024

The US and Israeli ‘peace’ entails destroying Middle Eastern peoples and imprisoning the rest to achieve Washington’s neocolonial interests. Therefore, Iran’s Unilateral Restraint vis-à-vis the US and Israel’s provocations will lead to more attacks. Consequently, any attacks on Iran should attract a proportionate response to restore balance and deterrence.

‘Morgue’, ‘Prison’, or ‘Market’ peace for the Middle East?

Escalation as Biden’s Primary Goal

The ongoing war in the Middle East is at the core of US policy and is closer to American politicians’ attention than any internal matter the US faces. At the time of writing, the US created Casus belli for war against Iran, by charging the Iranian IRGC leadership for attempting to assassinate the US republican candidate, Donald Trump. Meanwhile, Israel hinted that it would assassinate the Iranian leadership, suggesting the US will use its proxy, the IDF to assassinate Iranians and proceed to destroy the entire region for its neocolonial goals disguised as ‘peace’. While parties agree that peace is a desirable outcome, they differ in their visions of what it would entail. Washington’s actions give insight into its version of ‘peace’ going by the ‘actions speak louder than words’ saying. For instance, it has delivered additional air defense systems to Israel to blunt Iran’s retaliation to potential Israeli attacks, confirming that the latter will bomb Iran in the foreseeable future. Oppositely, Iran has not shown interest in attacking Israel first, meaning peace could be maintained if Israel refrained from further provocation. Washington has continued to enable Israel by delivering weapons throughout October 2024 for further escalation.
Israel and the US have openly provoked a war while smearing Iran to conceal their inventions

Therefore, the US version of ‘peace’ entails Israel bombing every country to oblivion, while the former lulls targeted parties with a promise of an ever-imminent, but unachievable ceasefire. Notably, Washington has only sent its phony envoys including Antony Blinken and Amos Hochstein to Egypt, Qatar, Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Lebanon. These envoys always read misleading statements that a ceasefire is imminent, making Israel’s opponents lower their guard for Washington to launch assassinations through Israel, for instance, in the case of Hamas leader Ismael Haniyeh, and Hezbollah’s Secretary Sayed Hassan Nasrallah. Thus, Iran’s unilateral restraint will only attract further attacks until the US achieves its goal of putting the entire region’s resources under its control.

As the US November 2024 elections approach, the incumbent Joe Biden demonstrated that his primary interest is in the Middle East’s war over domestic problems. For instance, on October 21, 2024, Biden expressed concerns about the leak of Israel’s plan to bomb Iran and ignored reports from the same day that Donald Trump was gaining in polls ahead of the democratic contender. Biden was also relaxed when Hurricanes Helene and Milton struck the US in September and October 2024, devastating communities, while the government only gave half-hearted assistance. It is possible that the original Israeli leaks revealed American involvement, since there is no other reason why Washington should worry about leaks of Tel Aviv’s military plans. Meanwhile, the US has been posing as if seeking to achieve a ‘cease-fire’ in a region located thousands of kilometers from its shores. Such enforced peace cannot be sustainable, as elaborated in the following two cases;

Washington’s ‘Prison Peace’, Israel as the Warden

The ‘Peace’ Washington seeks is to transform the Middle East into a ‘prison’ by stripping Arabs of resources and freedom using its appointed prison warden, Israel. ‘Peace’ enforced by Washington, and not resulting from a balance of interests and mutual respect among regional parties, cannot be sustainable. Instead, it is the kind expected in prisons, where wardens have absolute power and weapons while prisoners have nothing, including rights. Prisoners can be mistreated or injured, but wardens always report that the situation is ‘peaceful’, a scenario that was observed when Israel enclosed Gazans in an open-air prison, while violently expanding settlements in the West Bank. Meanwhile, Israel and its backers reported that the region was the most peaceful it had been, just before prisoners revolted on October 7, 2023.

Washington’s ‘Morgue/Graveyard Peace’, Israel as the Caretaker

Washington, if unchecked, can proceed to genocide all peoples in the Middle East, erasing them to achieve a ‘peace’ model akin to a morgue or graveyard. Morgues are quiet because most occupants are dead-Israel’s genocide is on course to silence Gazans now and the entire region later, to avail all the region’s resources to Washington’s. A past example was when European settlers attained such ‘peace’ by killing Native Americans and taking over their land and resources. Afterward, Washington acted as the cemetery caretaker of the land where it buried the natives and used the remaining few as memorials. Israel under Washington’s guidance pursues this ‘peace’ by attempting to eliminate Gazans, Lebanese, Iraqis, Syrians, and Iranians.

Iran, which John Bolton and Lindsey Graham have been scheming against, has withstood many cycles of Israeli and US provocations, including the downing of its civilian airliner, assassinating nuclear scientists, and the killing of an Iranian general and a Hamas leader while in Tehran. The Islamic Republic has exercised restraint, while both Israel and the US have openly provoked a war while smearing Iran to conceal their intentions.

Recently, the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu and Washington’s death knell that previously tolled for several Middle Eastern countries before Washington destroyed them repeated his deadly ding at the 79th UN General Assembly, this time for Iran. He painted an entire region; Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and Iran as cursed people who should be killed. Netanyahu was speaking for the US, which will stop at nothing short of the region’s destruction. Even if Iran and its allies refrain from responding to Israel’s provocation, Washington will continue the escalation spiral, either directly or through its Israeli proxy. Therefore, Iran should give Washington and Israel serious response to future attacks to achieve deterrence and sustainable peace.

Sustainable “Market Peace”

Lasting peace in the Middle East can only develop through balance and interdependence of regional parties, in a model similar to a market. Markets, unlike morgues, and prisons, are vibrant and chaotic places with infinite movements and noise, but participants rarely fight. Parties in the Middle East would develop into interdependent economies with balancing economic and military power if Washington’s maniacal goal of dominating was withdrawn, which would lead to sustainable peace.

For clarity, the author does not refer to the neoliberal-supremacists concept of ‘market’, where McDonnell’s F15 should force countries to accept McDonald’s merchants of obesity or to dedicate 2% of GDP to purchase American military hardware. Instead, he refers to the free exchange of resources, products, services, culture, and religion between different groups and countries to develop mutual trust, and understanding, and hence reduce conflicts.

‘Market peace’ cannot be achieved when the US uses a tiny provocateur to bomb everyone and to pave the way for Washington’s control of the region’s resources or the introduction of McDonald’s in Tehran, Damascus, and Sanaa. Instead, the precursor to ‘market peace’ is Iran and its allies responding proportionately to every one of Washington’s attacks even if done through Israel to create deterrence while reducing capabilities Washington has designated to turn the Middle East into a ‘morgue’ or a ‘prison’ administered by Israel.
