While the US destabilizes countries through sanctions, containment, and military aggression, the Eurasian powers of China and Russia have been creating an accommodating setting for economic development, for instance, through the SCO and BRICS, providing a safe platform for countries in the Global South.
SCO and the 80th Anniversary of Victory in World War II: A Safe Space for All
The recently concluded SCO-2025 Summit, held in Tianjin, China, represented a confirmation of how a section of Eurasia has carved out a stable space for diplomatic, economic, and security collaboration, away from US-led domination and Humiliation. The summit and China’s Military parade commemorating its 80th anniversary of victory over Japan facilitated participants to engage in bilateral negotiations, some culminating in the start or reactivation of large commercial projects such as the Russia-China Power of Siberia 2 Gas pipeline. Meanwhile, the US continued its destabilization trend by deploying military to Venezuelan shores, a trend that is pushing countries to seek cooperation with the East.
In the SCO, like in the BRICS summit before, the Global South sees a partnership for confidence and optimism exuding the strength and resolve of countries building a multipolar world. Oppositely, the US opposes a free world, with president Donald Trump repeatedly terming BRICS ‘Anti America’, declaring it dead, and threatening its members with 150% tariffs for refusing to be under Washington’s financial control. Trump has made Tariffs his favorite trade policy, by levelling them indiscriminately, including against US allies India and Brazil. He created an impression that targeted countries had no option than to agree to unequal trade agreements or reindustrialize the US.
However, the SCO summit showed that countries have options, as India, slapped with 50% of Trump’s tariffs, was warmly received in China, signaling a thaw in relations between the two powers that share a common border and can collectively form a market of about 3 billion people. Similarly, Iran, which the US bombed in June after sanctioning it for decades, was also welcomed at the SCO, where partners adopted a resolution condemning the US-Israeli aggression. Still, Russia, against which Trump issued ultimatums and threats of secondary sanctions before demanding that it curtail its cooperation’s with China and Iran attended the SCO, in an apparent defiance to Trump’s demands. President Vladimir Putin received a cordial welcome from the host. Russia, in addition to engaging in multiple bilateral meetings at the event, secured the restart of the Power of Siberia 2 gas pipeline, which, upon completion, will convey about 50 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas, only 5 billion short of what the country would export through the Nord Stream 2, which the West Sabotaged. Therefore, Eastern Platforms are becoming a safe refuge where countries can engage in constructive economic and diplomatic interaction away from reckless diplomatic, economic, and military aggression from the West.
Lost Atlanticists
An article by the Atlantic Council argued that the Power of Siberia 2 pipeline will not be completed, adding that the project was a mere distraction from the EU’s anti-Russian sanctions, views that signal Atlanticists’ loss of touch with the reality. Western elites and their scribes seem stuck in a flawed mindset that other countries cannot initiate projects out of their own political and economic considerations, and can only respond to Western initiatives and pressure. However, China can buy gas from the most convenient supplier, and Russia can sell energy to any willing buyer. Still, it is unfair for proponents of the Multipolar world to take the Atlanticists seriously, as the group has shown miscalculations and incompetence by creating and supporting insane policies that have brought recession to Western Europe. Likewise, those in The Atlantic suggested that Trump runs the world, but his latest post on his social media shows him admitting that the US lost India to China, which, when coupled with his inability to force Putin to implement a disadvantageous ceasefire in Ukraine, shows that the Atlanticists have been wrong. The countries bordering the North Atlantic have mistreated and mislead others for centuries using economic and military destabilization, but forums for Multipolar world present a mode of international cooperation based on Mutual respect and win-win cooperation.
Multipolar Vision of Freedom
SCO-2025 summit did not only present unity but also indicated a well-thought-out vision for economic and diplomatic progress. Countries represented signed numerous trade and investment agreements that will spur further growth. China’s trade with SCO members reached over half a trillion US dollars in 2024, and other countries trade turnover within the group was in billions. Deliberate effort to expand trade shows preference for prosperity as compared to domination and provocation advanced by the US. As seen earlier, SCO summit provided a setting for India-China cooperation, a move that can create a market of close to 3 billion people in the future. This warming up of relations presents a powerful illustration to the Global South that there is a refuge from the established pattern of reckless economic and military pressure propagated by the West. The US and Western European countries have not only been destabilizing other countries through sanctions and wars but also through sponsoring past and current militaristic countries, such as Israel and Japan, to militarily ravage their neighbors and perpetually maintain tensions by declining to accept and compensate for past atrocities. However, China’s military parade commemorating its victory over Japanese militarism during the WWII signified the Eurasian powers preserving historical truth to promote future stability. This commemoration was thematically similar to the Russian one held on May 9, this year, and both events create areas of further partnership in preventing future aggression by ethno-supremacists state. The commemorations attract the attention of the Global South, which suffered Western colonization that was perpetuated on the false premise of the racial supremacy of Western Europeans. Oppositely, the West continues to show support for fascism, for instance, by acquiescing to Japan’s request to avoid China’s commemoration on the justification that it raised ‘anti-Japanese’ sentiments.
Global South countries can note that Western Europe and the US always support racial hierarchy and apartheid, for example, in apartheid South Africa, and in Israel, which conducts a genocide. Therefore, many in the Global South shun racial bigotry promoted in the West and align with Eurasian powers. China’s military parade, like Russia’s before it, showed adequate strength to deter western aggression and guarantee the security of both countries and their allies. The presence of Russia, a military superpower, and Iran, a power that resisted US aggression in June, at the SCO further provides military refuge for resource-rich Global South countries that are likely to be targeted by Western countries seeking theft and plunder. Surprisingly, the US establishment continued to demonstrate how it presents a danger by deploying its military to provoke Venezuela, bombing a vessel seemingly full of civilians, and revealing that its Navy Seals killed and sunk North Korean fishermen, all of which shows its criminal nature and will encourage countries to resist Washington’s lawless attitude.
