DNC-2024: The Sham that is American Democracy

Simon Chege Ndiritu, August 29

DNC-2024

The US Democratic National Convention (DNC), as opposed to epitomizing the best of democratic ideals from the US, a country that styles itself as the biggest democracy globally, ended up displaying Washington’s dictatorship on the world. ‘Democracy’ ended up appearing as a guise for broken internal governance that cannot deliver benefits to US citizens. Washington cannot allow any government to serve citizens, for instance in Gadhafi’s Libya, or Mosaddegh’s Iran.

US Leading the World, but where?

The DNC-2024 not only introduced Kamala Harris as democrat’s presidential flag bearer for the November elections, but also hit headlines for being accompanied by a mobile abortions and vasectomy clinic, and occurring amidst intense protests decrying Joe Biden’s aiding of Israeli Genocide. Both spontaneous abortions and Genocide in Gaza now -and many reckless wars before – are the most prominent products of the US’s leading the world, even as Speakers at the DNC including the former and the current US presidents, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden respectively insisted that Washington should continue leading the world. Therefore, these speakers endorsed wanton destruction of life in Gaza, like in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, and Vietnam so long as the US mints money out of such events, even if the world’s majority dissents at the United Nations (UN). Any setup in which a minority dictates on the majority cannot be described as democratic, and Biden and Obama, who lead the US Democratic Party, ought to know that. Ironically, both inadvertently pushed for US dictatorship on the world’s majority in an event where American citizens should have canvassed how they should be governed. While Obama and Biden shouted platitudes of how Washington should lead the world, they declared inability to use executive power to improve US citizen’s wellbeing, and only promised to fight unspecified forces that seem to operate above the government, and pursue interests other than citizens’. Obama, Biden, and Kamala Harris acknowledged that they have been fighting for Americans against corporations such as the Big Pharma. It is curious what Obama’s fighting has achieved for over 650, 000 Americans, that are homeless every night, 40% college and university dropout annually, or 40 million poor Americas according to the US Bureau of Statistics. On the Contrary, the Late Gadhafi, whom Obama killed, had managed to eradicate homelessness, college dropout, and poverty over a short time, without arranging sham elections. Despite the US government failing to deliver services to citizens that elected it, it insists on leading the world that did not elect it, which is despotic. Washington cannot stand other regions developing as it even developed a policy guideline to restrict progress in other regions, policies it implements disguised as leadership.

Who Elected Washington?

The DNC displayed the hollowness of American Democracy, and empty vessels make the most noise, according to the English adage. President Joe Biden would ask “who can lead the world better than the US”, suggesting that a list of endless wars caused by Washington was the best thing for the world. Democratically speaking, no country should lead the world because states have never voted to elect a global leader, which makes Joe Biden’s statement dictatorial. Still, Washington has no respect for the world’s majority as it repeatedly violates multilateral mechanisms agreed upon by most countries, including in the United Nations (UN), showing its antidemocratic orientation. Noteworthy, the closest the world came to deciding how it is collectively governed is the UN, with its founding Charter providing laws promoting equality and respect for all, but Washington repeatedly violates this charter. Appallingly, Biden still prefers Washington’s tendency of impose itself on all other regions, especially those rich in resources or occupying strategic location, for instance in the Middle East. Washington fiddles with the affairs of the Middle East in the name of leadership, actions that have maintained Israeli-Palestinian conflicts, but Biden could not be perturbed by protestors calling for Ceasefire in Gaza while he was reading his supremacist speech, showing total disregard for human life.

The convention charade coincidentally occurred in the week when Iran began a court proceeding against the US and the UK for overthrowing the formers’ first democratic government of Mohammad Mosaddegh in 1953. Washington’s and London’s interference in Iran’s democracy showed how both countries do not genuinely care about the presence of a representative government that advances citizen’s interests, but are only driven by greed for other nation’s resources. Shockingly, Washington’s mouthpiece NPR praises anti-Mosaddegh coup, emphasizing how the CIA accomplished the diabolical event in only four days. Like Iran, other countries have expressed opposition to US global dictatorship, making Washington’s insistence on leading the world disdainful of these parties. Victims of Washington’s tyrannical adventures have been seeking to expand their freedom from US militarism and trade restrictions, a reality that Biden and Obama ignored.

Would all Peoples choose Washington’s Leadership?

Given an opportunity, many regions globally would not choose US leadership, as can be noted in how North Vietnamese’s chased a US-backed regime in the south, the Somali evicted American forces, and the Sahelian states asked the US military to leave. Similarly, Iraq and Syria, have also asked the US to leave their territories, calls that Washington ignores, even while Syria and Sahel prefer assistance from Russia in genuinely eliminating Islamist terrorism. Other instances of pushback against US dictatorship were noted in Afghanistan, and currently in the Red Sea, and Eastern Ukraine. Countries are also rejecting the US economic dictatorship propagated through sanctions. As a result, organizations such as the BRICS plus, the Shanghai Corporation Organization (SCO) feature countries exercising their democratic will to trade and respond to their local and regional challenges using their own rules as opposed to Washington’s dictates. Even, Western research agencies have shown that China is progressively gaining favorable standing in Africans as compared to the US. Countries in The Global South also remember the long history of America’s crimes and interference, which has made them to decline following Washington’s lead, for instance in imposing wild anti-Russian sanctions or supporting Israeli genocide. However, Washington’s establishment would like to act like this dirty history does not exist, which will be at its own peril. The US ruling class celebrated its past undemocratic events such as coups, lying, cheating, and stealing but must note that its victims in the global south learned how criminal this class can be. Some of these victims cannot take America’s statements at face value or follow its lead. Meanwhile, US leaders including Obama and Biden seem stuck in the 1930s, 40s, and 50s, in the days of American propagandist Edward Barneys. They seem to assume that a simple performance such as DNC-2024 should convince the whole world of American’s democratic credentials. However, such tricks can only work on US voters who will have to elect between two strange characters and not from millions of well-educated, decent, and enterprising Americans. The US ruling class’ self-absorption in controlling others while hiding behind virtues only postpones the country’s need for change, which allows further deterioration to a point where correction will be impossible or useless.
