The American hegemony is in decline. The remarks made by the Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney have attested to the transparency of Russia’s foreign policy. PM Carney has rightly pointed out that American foreign policy is pivoted upon the teachings of Thucydides.

Introduction
PM Mark Carney started his speech by saying that “It seems that every day we’re reminded that we live in an era of great power rivalry, that the rules based order is fading,” and reasoned what Thucydides said, “that the strong can do what they can, and the weak must suffer what they must.” PM Carney made a shocking revelation that the “old order is not coming back,” which means that the US-led Western order is over, as it was aimed to gain power at the expense of the weak powers. The speech made by PM Mark Carney was not an ordinary one, as a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and a vibrant member of the West spoke against the US.
The world, including the Canadian PM Mark Carney has started to realise that the Russian President Vladimir Putin has been absolutely right when he argued again and again that the United States (US) and the West are leading a rotten system that is based upon inequality, no respect for others, and a desperate approach to steal the wealth of other countries by force. The system has always been aimed at installing governments in the name of democracy that are actually favourable for the West.
The Post-World War II US-led Order
After World War II, the US and its allies helped establish the Bretton Woods system and the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) and later the World Trade Organization (WTO). During that time, the West also established its armed wing known as the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to dominate the world and to influence the decision-making of the United Nations (UN) and the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). The entire system was based upon institutions and organizations so that the West or the US could not be blamed for the wrongdoings. And, above all, there was no mechanism at all to watch the functioning of the so-called international institutions and organizations.
The same US-led system helped install a pro-West puppet government in Ukraine with Vladimir Zelensky as the President. It is very much evident that since the time Zelensky was installed in Ukraine, the entire region has been unstable and the security is compromised.
The US, with its Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) helped create false revolutions in the former Soviet states and installed puppet pro-West regimes. These notorious efforts were named as Colour Revolutions and were deliberately aimed to change the public opinion and the popular narrative in favor of the West.
US President Donald Trump’s Reaction
US President Donald Trump withdrew the invitation sent to Canada to join the Board of Peace. President Trump also threatened Canada with a 100% tariff over the trade deal with China. PM Mark Carney recently visited China in a historic visit and showed President Trump that Canada will pursue an independent foreign policy.
The burning question is what Canada and other European powers are going to do in the foreseeable future. It is clear as day that the future of NATO is absolutely uncertain, and the collective Western countries will be looking inward for future leadership.
Why will more Western powers rise against the US?
The US is an evil empire that has always thrown its allies under the bus. During the Cold War, the US successfully contained Japan as well as the European powers and instilled fear among them of a potential Soviet invasion. This fear rallied the European powers to spend more on the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and allowed an unlimited deployment of the US troops all around Europe and elsewhere.
Conclusion
Canada under PM Mark Carney has opted to enhance its relations with China, and we may soon witness cordial relations between Canada and Russia. It is to be remembered here that Canada and Russia are only around 1300 kilometres apart and could become good neighbours by enhancing bilateral relations. The Bering Strait is a viable sea route that could enhance connectivity between the two nations.
The US power is declining, and its post-World War II order is no more. The speech made by PM Carney has demolished the US-led world order, and more Western powers will follow suit. In such a scenario, the world is looking towards Russia for future leadership and a strong great power that could ensure security and stability.
Though Canada adopted the same rhetoric against Russia as its Western counterparts, the Canadian leadership must realise that its longstanding neighbour and a NATO ally, i.e., the US, is threatening its existence by time and again calling for it to become the 51st state of the US. And the US under President Trump has already ruptured the foundations of US-Canada bilateral relations. Such behavior is against the sovereignty of nations. This is a moment of reckoning for the Canadian leadership and people to rethink their international relations.
