The First 100 Days of the 47th U.S. President: Anti-Trump Resistance Grows

Vladimir Mashin, April 29, 2025

America after Trump’s victory is not just divided—the president’s actions are increasingly met with fierce opposition.

On April 17, The New York Times published an article by David Brooks titled «America Needs a Rebellion»—first, “to stop Trump. To thwart his efforts. To throw lawsuits at him. To turn some of his followers against him.” Later, the goal would be to create a society that is not just “tough on Trump but tough on the causes of Trumpism.”
Trump’s policies on tariffs and Ukraine have united domestic opposition with the ruling elites of major Western European nations. While they can’t remove him from power, they are determined to block his agenda—using every tool at their disposal

Although Trump is supported by an overwhelming majority of the Republican Party, Democrats are recovering from their defeat and seizing on nearly every move the president makes to attack him.

The 47th president himself gives them plenty of ammunition, particularly with his introduction of sweeping new tariffs on trade with other nations. In late April, 12 states challenged the legality of the proposed tariff structure in court, arguing that it infringes on Congress’s constitutional authority to regulate foreign trade.

Under pressure, Trump slightly softened his tariff policy, especially after several billionaire Republican donors voiced unusually sharp criticism. Ken Griffin, for example, stated: “This policy undermines America’s global standing and the country’s image. The U.S. is more than just a nation—it’s a brand. A universal brand, whether in culture, financial power, or military might… America has transcended being merely a country.” JP Morgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon, in his annual letter to shareholders, argued that “Trump’s tariffs and ‘America First’ foreign policy could erode America’s unique position in the world. ‘America First’ is fine, unless it leaves America alone: if the military and economic alliances of the Western world collapse, America itself will inevitably weaken over time.”

Trump’s supporters applaud his crackdown on illegal immigration, his condemnation of transgender ideology, and his push to restore traditional values—that there are only two genders, male and female. Even his critics admit that his efforts to streamline the federal bureaucracy have saved significant taxpayer money.

Democrats Ramp Up Their Attacks

At the same time, Democrats are launching an aggressive campaign against “billionaire rule.” Left-wing figures like Senator Bernie Sanders and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are holding nationwide rallies under the slogan “Down with the Oligarchs!” It’s worth noting that Republicans have always represented the wealthiest segment of American society—unsurprisingly, the current administration is packed with billionaires. Meanwhile, the wealth gap in America continues to widen.

Pro-Democrat media outlets have seized on the April 14 spaceflight of six elite American women aboard a privately funded rocket ship—while the planet faces severe climate change, the rich are just having fun. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos (the world’s second-richest man after Elon Musk) decided to gift his fiancée, Lauren Sánchez, and her friends a space excursion, quipping: “Someone went to space with her hair done and makeup on.” For this, he founded yet another space tech company.

The Government Efficiency Department, led by Elon Musk, has already saved the federal budget hundreds of billions of dollars. However, this falls short of the trillion-dollar savings he promised, so some Republicans in Congress are discussing new ways to fund Trump’s agenda. One proposal gaining traction is raising the top tax rate to nearly 40% for those earning over $1 million (up from the current 37%, with a previous proposal at 39.6%). According to Bloomberg, this could generate around $400 billion in revenue over several years.

But on April 23, Trump strongly opposed the idea, warning that it would be “very destructive because many millionaires will leave the country.” In the past, they moved between states—now, with travel so fast and convenient, they’ll leave the U.S. entirely. “If you do this, you’ll lose a lot of money,” he said.

The American media were quick to spin this as proof that Trump cares more about oligarchs than the nation’s interests.

Trump’s Stance on Tariffs and Ukraine Unites Opposition

Trump’s policies on tariffs and Ukraine have united domestic opposition with the ruling elites of major Western European nations. While they can’t remove him from power, they are determined to block his agenda—using every tool at their disposal.

Some Russian political analysts believe that anti-Trump forces may soon escalate to openly subversive actions against the U.S. president’s policies (including, for example, the recent assassination of a high-ranking Russian general in Moscow and the explosion at Iran’s Bandar Abbas port, which caused significant casualties and destruction).

For now, dissatisfaction with Trump is primarily focused on his handling of the Ukraine conflict. Globalists, both in the U.S. and abroad, are working to obstruct his efforts to end the war.

Meanwhile, Trump is in a hurry—he wants to go down in history as a great peacemaker. That’s why he denied Netanyahu’s request to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities and is clearly seeking a deal with Tehran.

The American president seems confident that success here would not only earn him global praise but also boost his chances of being nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Most Western media remain hostile to Trump—they deliberately ignore his biggest achievement: averting the very real threat of nuclear war that had escalated under the Biden administration.
