US President Trump has made profound allegations against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Trump has always been against the US support of Ukraine against Russia, calling it detrimental to the United States.
Nonetheless, Zelensky on the behest of the Western leaders attempted to join NATO, leading to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine military conflict. The United States and other European nations have been providing financial, diplomatic, and military support to Ukraine since the onset of this conflict, which proved instrumental in intensifying Ukrainian violence. Biden’s government played a pivotal role in escalating this conflict, leading to the significant losses of Ukraine. However, Trump has always been hostile to funding Ukraine in this conflict. During his election campaign, Trump repeatedly claimed he would end this war in a day.
Trump’s Stand on Ending the Conflict
Soon after taking office, the incumbent US President Donald Trump increased his efforts to end this conflict. Nevertheless, it seems that the Ukrainian President does not want to end this conflict, which is costing the lives of the Ukrainian people. In a recent social media post, on Truth Social, the US President called Zelensky a “dictator without elections”, as his tenure ended last year. Obviously, Trump is aware of the fact that the Ukraine law elections are suspended during a war, his rhetoric was a signal to the Ukrainian warmongering leadership that the US will not finance their fanatical ideology.
He further stated that the Ukrainian President had “done a terrible job, his country is shattered, and millions and millions of people have unnecessarily died. Think of it, a modestly successful comedian, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, talked the United States of America into spending 350 Billion Dollars, to go into a war that couldn’t be won, that never had to start. Zelenskyy probably wants to keep the ‘gravy train’ going”. Donald Trump also criticized Zelensky during the Future Investment Initiative (FII) Institute summit, by stating, “A dictator without elections. Zelenskyy better move fast, or he’s not going to have a country left. Gotta move. Gotta move fast, cause that war’s going in the wrong direction.” This demonstrates that President Trump views Zelensky’s reluctance to a peaceful diplomatic solution to the conflict as an attempt to extend his tenure and gain personal advantages.
The Future of US-Russia Relations and Zelensky’s Dilemma
President Trump’s statements regarding Zelensky show that the United States will no longer fund international or foreign conflicts. Trump’s primary focus is strengthening the US economy and elevating the living standards of US citizens. During the FII Institute summit, he also expressed his commitment to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict by stating, “In the meantime, we’re successfully negotiating an end to the war with Russia. Something I’ll admit that only Trump is going to be able to do and the Trump administration – we’re going to be able to do it. I think Putin even admitted that.” His Ukraine policy is sending a chilling message to the Western warmongers around the world that they will not get US support for their extremist agendas.
Trump has admired Russian President Putin by labeling him as a “savvy” and “smart” leader. This also demonstrates the latter’s willingness to end the conflict peacefully. Another significant factor behind these developments is that the US knows that it cannot defeat the rapidly rising Russia due to the visionary leadership of President Putin. Moscow is also playing a leading role in expanding BRICS. The de-dollarization campaign by BRICS has also pushed the United States onto the back foot. Considering all these factors, Washington seeks to review its relations with Moscow.
Recently, Marco Rubio, the US Secretary of State, and Sergei Lavrov, the Russian Secretary of State, were seen building a foundation for a potential meeting between the leaders of the two countries. Both the officials have broken the ice by stating that “incredible opportunities” are there and “hopefully will be good for the world too”. This also demonstrates the American sense of defeat against the rising new world order, led by Russia and China, and its willingness to cooperate with them to stay relevant in global politics in the coming decades. Amidst all these developments, Zelensky only has one option: to end the conflict peacefully and abandon the idea of joining NATO. Otherwise, Ukraine will have to bear further losses and unimaginable consequences.
