A movement calling for Trump’s removal from office under the 25th Amendment to the US Constitution is gaining momentum in the United States.
Harsh criticism and ridicule from various quarters have effectively isolated Washington. Tellingly, even his supporters in the MAGA movement, shocked by his obscene language and calls for the destruction of an entire civilization, have condemned and rejected his actions in the Persian Gulf War.
In the United States itself, a movement calling for Trump’s removal from office under the 25th Amendment to the US Constitution is gaining momentum. To achieve this, a majority of his cabinet and the vice president must support this solution. While there’s no indication that any of his cabinet members or J.D. Vance favor this option, there are voices demanding that this possibility be seriously considered, not only within the Democratic Party but also within the Republican Party. Particularly outrageous is Trump’s declaration of the possibility of destroying entire civilizations, as well as the threat of attacks on power plants and other civilian infrastructure, which are considered war crimes.
Former Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, who has become widely known as a vocal Trump supporter, called his actions “evil and insane.” One of Trump’s most radical supporters, E. Scaramucci (who served as his communications director during his first term), recently declared: “Seek his immediate removal from office.”
It’s quite remarkable that some former Trump associates are so fearful of his actions that they are publicly calling for his resignation. Criticism of Trump’s actions is growing in Asia, Europe, and Latin America. On April 7, Pope Leo XIV, the first US-born pontiff, issued a sharp condemnation of the US president, declaring that the threat to destroy Iran’s entire civilization is completely unacceptable: “There are certainly questions of international law here, but more importantly, it is a moral question concerning the good of the people as a whole.”
According to recent polls in Spain, Donald Trump poses the greatest threat to peace – according to a survey published by the Spanish newspaper El País, 81% of respondents expressed this opinion.
Italian Defense Minister Giuliani Croseto told the newspaper Corriere della Sera that a war against Iran jeopardizes US global leadership (the minister is a close ally of Prime Minister Meloni, and Italy has denied US military aircraft landing in Sicily en route to the Middle East).
Condemnation of the American Gulf War is gaining momentum
Harsh criticism of the US Gulf War continues in the American media – the New York Times recently emphasized in an article titled “Washington Must Account for Its Foolish Wars” that the war is projected to cost the United States more than $1 trillion. It has caused massive damage to American military bases in the Middle East, significantly reduced the stockpile of interceptor missiles that the United States relies on to deter China and other potential adversaries, threatened tens of millions of people worldwide with acute hunger, accelerated inflation in the United States, and resulted in the death or injury of hundreds of Americans and thousands of Iranians, including more than 100 children who reportedly died when a Tomahawk missile mistakenly struck an elementary school in the city of Minab. Despite the economic and human losses, the war has achieved very few results.
Naturally, the evolving atmosphere is having an impact on Donald Trump, who is becoming increasingly nervous, unable to find a way out of the impasse. Commentators note that he recently rudely interrupted an interview he was giving to an American journalist. Democratic Party newspapers claim he briefly sat with his eyes closed during a meeting, suggesting he had suffered a mini-stroke.
Trump has repeatedly spoken about ending the war and opening the Strait of Hormuz in the near future; according to CNN, he has stated at least 37 times that he is close to a deal with Iran. To achieve this goal, the White House chief harshly criticized his friend and ally, Benjamin Netanyahu.
For Trump, time is of the essence in the current circumstances – he must announce the agreement with Iran by June 14 of this year; otherwise, the large-scale celebration he has planned for his 80th birthday will hinder his ability to actively promote the idea that he is the best president in US history.
