Over his first few months in office, the 47th President of the United States significantly impacted world politics: however American society was affected even more.

The purge of the federal government is evidence of the formation of a system of authoritarian rule. By the beginning of fall, about 200,000 people (almost 10% of federal employees) had been officially dismissed from public service. This was formally done to improve the efficiency of the Washington bureaucracy; however it is an ideological step eliminating adherents to a “liberal value system” and active opponents of the president. A frontal assault has been launched on the American higher education system (including leading American universities such as Harvard, Columbia, and several others), depriving them of government support worth approximately $9 billion; in total, more than 4,000 grants for 600 American universities and colleges across the United States were canceled.
The White House’s directive and ultimate to dismiss or suspend well-known journalists and presenters of popular television programs have become a constant, and the Federal Communications Commission has started to play a central role in this attack on freedom of speech, which actively threatens license cancellation and denial of access to broadcasting frequencies as a pressure tool.
It is noteworthy that Trump has filed a $15 billion defamation lawsuit against the New York Times, and according to a number of Arab newspapers, this publication will either be closed or its focus will be redefined. Rumors have appeared in the American press that one of the oligarchs loyal to Trump intends to buy CNN.
Societal discord is deepening
There has been a clear trend towards changing the role and importance of the armed forces in US domestic politics under the pretext of combating illegal immigration and crime, especially in large American cities. Already in August, the Washington police began getting reassigned to the federal authorities, with national units being deployed in a number of major cities where Democrats are in power, in particular Los Angeles, Chicago, Portland, etc.
A third Trump term is now being discussed. The governor of California, Democrat Gavin Newsom, even stated that he doubts whether presidential elections will be held in the United States in 2028.
Trump, speaking at a conference of the command staff of the US Army at the end of September, said that army units should be ready for possible tasks inside the country.
In May, 2025, Minister of War Pete Hegseth (he is no longer called the minister of defense) ordered a 20% reduction in senior generals, and earlier the Pentagon announced the dismissal of 5% of its civilian staff. Hegseth stressed that there is no place for transgender people in the US army, and all officers must pass a physical education test (as some generals are overweight).
On October 1, funding for the US government was suspended, meaning that some government services were suspended, and the salaries of hundreds of thousands of civil servants were suspended. This is called a “shutdown” in America, the last of which was in 2019, when the Senate was in disagreement for more than a month. Currently, the polarization among senators has worsened, and the bill on the allocation of funds to the state apparatus is not getting the required 60 votes.
The USA is turning into an oligarchic autocracy
Some media outlets are talking about the creation of a US president personality cult, especially after his statement at a meeting with the generals that it would be an “insult” to the United States if he did not receive the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in resolving a number of wars.
The campaign against Trump is gaining momentum not only in the American media loyal to the Democrats, but also in the European media. For example, former German Foreign Minister and Vice Chancellor Joschka Fischer wrote at the end of September: “American democracy is collapsing, it is in danger, the entire federal government has become a tool to satisfy Trump’s personal whims, the country is turning into an oligarchic autocracy”.
Political violence in the United States is reaching unprecedented proportions, threatening social structures and government institutions. The political crisis is deteriorating into a latent civil war.
