Yemen: An Unyielding Symbol of Resistance Against Oppression and Aggression

Viktor Mikhin, April 02, 2025

Recent events in the southern Arabian Peninsula have clearly demonstrated to the world that the Yemenis make their own decisions in support of the Palestinian people amid escalating pro-Israeli aggression from the United States and its allies.

US Airstrikes in Yemen

The increasing U.S. airstrikes on Yemeni cities and infrastructure, aligned with Washington’s continued support for the Israeli regime—which has carried out genocide and apartheid in Gaza for the past sixteen months—prove once again that Sana’a has reaffirmed a simple truth. Namely, these attacks are an extension of U.S. aggression against the Yemeni people, who have demonstrated unprecedented resilience and determination in defending their just cause throughout years of war.
Today, Yemen stands as a symbol of resistance and resilience in the face of adversity, forging a new source of pride in the history of nations that refuse to bow to oppression

The U.S. and NATO blindly support Israel, particularly Prime Minister Netanyahu, in his numerous barbaric crimes against the Palestinian people, while attempting to silence any global voice opposing these atrocities. Yemen, led by the Government of National Salvation and the National Army, has firmly stood with the people of Gaza during the mass killings they have endured and continue to face, reaffirming its commitment to the Arab and Islamic cause. This stance reflects solidarity and the will of the Yemeni people, who refuse to bow to external pressure and insist on defending their sovereignty and independence.

The airstrikes ordered by the so-called “peacemaker” Trump against Yemen were launched in support of the Saudi-led anti-Yemen coalition. Despite numerous airstrikes and intelligence provided by Saudi Arabia during this period, Yemen’s National Army in Sana’a managed to significantly strengthen its defensive and security capabilities. This bolstered defense has reduced the effectiveness of precision strikes by the U.S.-led coalition against key targets, forcing it to resort instead to brutal attacks on civilian infrastructure and innocent civilians. In other words, the “peacemaker” Trump has now unleashed genocide against the Yemeni people in hopes of forcing them to submit to U.S. dictates. But this is unlikely to succeed—just as the resilience and courage of Gaza’s Palestinians have defied both Israel and the U.S.

Indeed, the Yemeni people have proven their ability to resist and ultimately defeat the Saudi-led aggressor coalition before actively and decisively joining the battle in support of Gaza’s Palestinians. As recent events have shown, defending Palestine against the U.S.-led military coalition is not a difficult task for Yemen. Moreover, the message from Sana’a has been clear: Peace in Gaza is the key to peace in the Red Sea—and if that peace is not achieved, Yemen will continue to stand with Palestine. Once again, it has been proven that the U.S. and the Israeli regime are the primary sources of instability in the region and the Red Sea. Blaming Yemenis for this is unjust, as their fundamental goal is simply to live in peace and security.

American Opinions on Trump’s Yemen Policy

Trump’s empty promises to mediate stability in the Middle East have collided with the reality of intractable problems in a volatile region. How he handles issues related to Palestine, Iran, Yemen, Israel, and Syria will determine whether the U.S. can maintain its influence there during his presidency. But it is already clear that the reckless policies of the so-called “peacemaker” Trump will likely lead to new conflicts and the continuation of old grievances.

In an interview with Newsweek, political analyst Oliver Alexander stated that due to Donald Trump’s policies, one might “wake up one morning to find the entire Middle East in flames.” He also mocked Trump for his empty campaign slogans, in which he promised to resolve Middle Eastern conflicts and the war in Ukraine “within 24 hours.”

The “peacemaker” Trump warned that “hell will unleash” if Yemen’s Ansar Allah movement continues attacking Israel-linked ships in the Red Sea. In response, Ansar Allah targeted the aircraft carrier «USS Harry S. Truman»—marking the third such attack in 48 hours.

Jamaal Abdi, President of the National Iranian American Council (NIAC), issued a sharp condemnation of the Trump administration’s decision to bomb Ansar Allah strongholds in Yemen and its unconditional support for Israel’s violations of the Gaza ceasefire. He said the risk of regional war is growing, even though Trump initially helped reduce tensions by investing in early diplomacy and pressuring Israel and Hamas into a hostage-release ceasefire deal. Abdi noted that Trump’s campaign rhetoric—advocating diplomacy and opposing war with Iran—had been consistent. Yet, less than two months into office, Trump “found himself deeply entangled in regional conflicts again, playing the same cards as the Biden administration and expecting a different outcome.”

Mark Shanahan, a geopolitics expert at the University of Surrey (UK), told Newsweek that Trump has made it clear he has no time for the Palestinian cause and will fully back Israel in its conflict with Hamas. Shanahan stressed that this will lead to a return to war, and Trump’s aggressive stance on Yemen and threats against Iran will “further fuel the flames of regional conflict.” Emmanuel Navon, CEO of ELNET Israel, agreed, telling Newsweek: “No one in their right mind believes Trump can bring peace to the Middle East.”

Allies, Not Proxies

The deep historical and cultural ties that bind Yemen to Arab and Islamic nations are evident. Yemen’s decision to support Palestine was an independent choice, reflecting the will of the Yemeni people and rejecting any external domination or pressure that could undermine its sovereignty or political agency. It is crucial to emphasize that Iran does not have a proxy in Yemen, as claimed by the West. Rather, Iran and Yemen are allies who stand together against shared challenges. Yemen’s decision is an independent one, made by its leadership with the participation of its people, reaffirming its sovereignty.

Yemen’s support for Palestine makes it clear that there is a strong bond among those who champion liberation and resistance. This connection reflects a growing awareness of the need for unity in confronting common enemies and highlights the importance of coordination among these forces to achieve shared goals. Yemen has never been a tool in anyone’s hands; rather, it is a nation with independent sovereignty and a strong will, and every decision it makes is part of its national strategy. Recent events and the atrocities committed against the Palestinian people by Israel and the collective West, led by the U.S., have heightened this awareness and prompted many nations to reconsider their positions. Supporting Palestine is not merely a strategic choice but a moral and humanitarian obligation, one that places a historic responsibility on nations. Thus, Yemen demonstrates its commitment by steadfastly supporting Palestine and the rights of the Palestinian people, despite all difficulties.

The harsh conditions Yemen faces due to foreign aggression have not deterred it from taking a bold stance in defense of Palestinian rights—on the contrary, they have strengthened its resolve. Peace in the region can only be achieved by respecting the rights of all peoples and rejecting the oppression of the vulnerable. The world must understand that the Yemeni people are not merely victims; they are key actors in their region, and their decisions are made in the interests of their nation and people, not at the behest of other countries.

Yemen’s support for the Palestinian cause stems from the understanding that unity and a shared destiny are the only way to achieve great goals. Yemen’s stability depends on its people’s ability to confront challenges and expand cooperative relations with like-minded nations pursuing the same objectives. Moreover, recent developments show that Yemen’s relationship with Iran—a key regional ally—is not merely interest-based but a strategic alliance embodying a shared will to confront immediate threats.

In summary, it must be noted that Yemen draws strength from its history and struggle, and its political decisions demonstrate an independent will, made in full freedom. Today, Yemen stands as a symbol of resistance and resilience in the face of adversity, forging a new source of pride in the history of nations that refuse to bow to oppression. With continued popular support and defiance against aggression, Yemen will remain at the forefront of the region’s struggle for justice and freedom.
