The positioning of Japan on the international stage is largely determined by the evolution of its relations with its key ally, the United States. The unpredictability of American foreign policy, which clearly manifested itself in the ‘impromptu’ in the Persian Gulf, has become a source of serious problems for Tokyo.

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s March 18-21 visit to the United States  unfolded amid a period of dramatic transformation, both at home and abroad.

Following a convincing victory in the February 8 general election, the Takaichi government has significantly strengthened its position domestically. This consolidation is also reflected on the international stage, where Japan is increasingly confident in its relations with both allies and opponents.
